How to send messages to the USA and/or Canada?
USA and Canada have specific messaging regulations, which means that you will need to buy and register a special USA or Canada-enabled number.
There are three options:
1. 10DLC: A10-digit long codes are a less costly alternative to short codes. They are recommended for businesses that are just getting started with messaging or those that require lower messaging throughput.
2. Short code: A memorable 5- to 6-digit number with higher cost and longer setup time, able to handle higher messaging throughput. This is a suggested option if your business sends higher volumes of marketing, promotional, or A2P messages.
3. Toll-free number: Specific number format with a toll-free code that uses a national number, which may affect brand awareness. As opposed to the short code number, the toll-free number has a lower messaging throughput. This is a suggested option if you are a small to medium business owner, that most commonly sends transactional messages.
Once you decide which number is the best fit for your business needs, you can buy one in Channels and Numbers.
After you buy a number, you will need to register it. You can start the registration process for the 10DLC number through the US Sender Registration app. If you need to register a short code or toll-free number, contact us at [email protected].
