Why is my domain still inactive and unverified?

Ivan Soldo

The case

If your domain has been registered with Infobip but remains inactive and unverified, this will prevent you from utilizing it for sending email traffic.

You may encounter several indicators of this issue. For example, within the Infobip account, the domain status may display a red exclamation point accompanied by the “Unverified” label.

Additionally, if you’ve attempted to send email traffic, you may notice the following error codes appearing in the logs:

  • 6036 EC_DOMAIN_UNVERIFIED – Indicates that the domain does not currently have all required Domain Name System (DNS) records set up correctly.
  • 6047 EC_DOMAIN_CONFIGURATION_ERROR – Suggests a configuration issue with the Domain Name System (DNS) records for the domain.

These errors point to issues with your DNS records, which are essential for domain verification.

Steps to resolve the issue

Step 1: Check domain status

Begin by logging into your Infobip account and navigating to Channels and Numbers → Channels → Email → Marketing and Transactional.

Here, you will see a list of your domains. Select the domain you want to verify.

If the domain is unverified, a red exclamation point will be visible next to it. This visual cue helps you quickly identify domains that need attention.

Click on the three vertical dots (menu icon) next to the domain name and select Manage. This will take you to the domain settings page, where you can manage your domain’s configuration.

Step 2: Review and update DNS records

On the domain settings page, you’ll find a detailed list of the DNS records that are required for your domain to be verified. Each record will display both the expected and current values.

Compare the expected values provided by Infobip with the current values configured in your DNS hosting provider. All mandatory DNS records must be accurately configured and propagated for the domain to be verified, as per Infobip’s requirements.

DNS propagation can take up to 48 hours. During this time, your domain status will remain unverified until the changes are fully propagated globally.

Once your domain is successfully verified, its status will update to “Verified.” On the Infobip account, this change is indicated on the following link – https://portal.infobip.com/apps/email-setup/marketing-transactional – where you will notice that the red exclamation point has been replaced with a green checkmark.

On the domain settings page, a verified domain will be displayed as follows:

Helpful tips:

Verify DNS propagation using online tools

After updating your DNS records, you can verify their propagation status using online tools like DNS Checker or MxToolbox.

To do this, visit one of these tools, enter the specific record name (e.g., your domain or subdomain), select the record type (TXT, CNAME, etc.), and run a search.

If the search results do not show any hits, this indicates that the record has not yet propagated. If the results show some hits but do not match Infobip’s expected DNS records, there is likely a mismatch that needs to be corrected.

Correct any discrepancies and wait for the records to propagate. Once the propagation is complete and all records match the expected values, your domain should be automatically verified in the Infobip system.

Consult tutorials for DNS configuration

If you’re unfamiliar with updating DNS records, you can refer to this tutorial, which provides step-by-step instructions for configuring DNS records with the most common web hosting providers.

These resources can guide you through the process, ensuring that you correctly set up the necessary records for domain verification.
